Is it a bird??? Is it a plane? No….it’s Andy Dirks. I don’t think Dirks is destined to become a superstar or anything near it, but I do think he will be a solid major league baseball player. His role on this team has gone virtually unnoticed, with all the attention being heaped on Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, and even Quintin Berry. Dirks has shown to be a hitter with knowledge of the strike zone, and doesn’t “swing for the fences” every time he’s at the plate. Now having seen him in person several times I have to say I’ve been impressed with the steady play in the outfield by Dirks. Again, he’s not flashy like Austin Jackson but has above average speed and has cut off several drives before they turned into doubles or triples at the spacious Comerica Park.

Over the last week or so, I had to ask…”don’t the White Sox every lose?” It’s been frustrating to see them win while the Tigers do likewise and never seem to make up any ground. But I got to thinking, if I were a Sox fan, (heaven forbid!!) I would  be getting frustrated because the Tigers just won’t go away. So while we may feel like it’s a futile chase, take comfort that fans in Chicago have to be concerned about that team in Detroit that continues to breath down their necks.
