Compuware Welcomes U.S. Navy Week To Detroit

DETROIT -- Compuware Corp. (Nasdaq: CPWR) will play host to a number of the events associated with the Navy's Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and Navy Week in Detroit, Sept. 3-10.

While the U.S. Navy docks along the shore of the Detroit River at Hart Plaza, Compuware will provide venues for the Navy's planned events, including band performances, a naval simulator and an invitation-only speaking engagement with Rear Admiral Sinclair M. Harris.

"Any time we can help support the men and women of the armed forces, we're happy to do it. A good number of them work here," said Gery Plourde, vice president of field technical support for Compuware's Application Performance Management business unit and executive sponsor of Compuware's Military Veterans employee resource group.

Plourde said Compuware's veterans employee group "is very active in the community, and helping the Navy stage events here in Detroit is just another example of how Compuware appreciates and supports the people serving our country."

The Compuware MilVets, in coordination with the company's recruiters, will take that support one step further as the company hosts a Veteran Job Fair at Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Compuware headquarters. Recruiters will be on hand to discuss job opportunities and the company's employee-friendly culture, benefits and perks with interested veterans. Compuware's facilities are handicap accessible so wounded warriors will have no problems getting around.

Military veterans planning to attend the Job Fair will need to present their military ID cards, DD form 214, or discharge papers. Parking is available in the Compuware Visitors' Parking on Farmer Street and will be validated for the first two hours. Before attending the event, veterans can search for available positions on the Compuware corporate web site. Any further questions about the Veteran Job Fair can be emailed to recruiting@compuware.com.

In addition to the job fair, Compuware's MilVets has arranged an opening ceremony for the Navy Week to take place in the atrium of Compuware's headquarters building. As part of these official ceremonies, the Navy's brass band will perform during the raising and lowering of the American flag. Navy sailors will stand guard over memorial walls adorned with the names of fallen comrades.

Sailors also will visit Marcus Garvey Academy, Compuware's adopted school. The students are invited to participate in an afternoon mini boot-camp, featuring mock drills. Also on-hand will be the Navy's Chevy Suburban customized to include a full-scale, state-of-the-art media center featuring a four-unit video game system for school-age children to enjoy.

Compuware's support for its active or retired military veterans, as well as its involvement community efforts like these, have earned the company prestigious honors from the Michigan Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, including the "Above and Beyond" and the "Pro Patria." The "Pro Patria" award is the highest state-level honor an organization can receive from the ESGR.
