DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has traded infielder/outfielder Jeff Baker to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for a player to be named later on or before September 30, 2012.

Baker, 31, hit .200 (7×35) with two doubles and four RBI in 15 games with the Tigers during the 2012 season. His contract was designated for assignment by the Tigers earlier today as the club recalled outfielder Avisail Garcia from Double A Erie.

A veteran of eight seasons at the major league level with the Rockies (2005-09), Cubs (2009-12) and Tigers (2012), he is hitting .268 (359×1340) with 87 doubles, 11 triples, 37 home runs and 177 RBI in 529 games during his career.

Baker was acquired by the Tigers from the Chicago Cubs on August 5.
