Red Wings' Zetterberg Tempts Fans With Tasty Treats

ROYAL OAK (CBS Detroit) - Red Wings fans lined up around the block in Royal Oak on Wednesday for a chance to meet Henrik Zetterberg -- and try his treats.

For more than 100 years, Swedes have been satisfying their sweet tooth with "Royal Swedish Snowballs," which consists of a light vanilla creme covered in chocolate and sprinkled with coconut snowflakes.

Zetterberg is partnering with Just Baked, a Livonia-based specialty cupcake shop and bakery, to bring the pastries to the United States for the first time ever. The Snowballs will be produced and sold in Michigan.

Wednesday, at the Just Baked on Woodward Avenue , Zetterberg was working behind the counter signing autographs the celebrate the dessert's launch.

"I am so proud to have the opportunity to share a taste of my home with the people of Michigan," Zetterberg said. "I grew up enjoying Snowballs, and I know generations of Americans will now love them as well.".

This woman, who didn't give her name, was excited to stand in like to meet her favorite Wings star. She predicts Zetterberg will be the new team captain. "I would be very surprised if he wasn't. He's got the personality, the looks, the charm ... and everything else! You could probably ask anyone in line here."

She said she's worried about a possible hockey lockout.

"I think that the players would like to not have a lockout, and the fans definitely don't want a lockout," she said. "Oh yeah, I want (the season) to start on September 26th just like it's supposed to."

Royal Swedish Snowballs will be available in all 12 metro Detroit Just Baked locations beginning Sept. 5. They will be sold in 4-packs and 6-packs for $5.99 and $8.99, respectively.
