DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) The 2013 Major League Baseball schedule was officially unveiled at 1 p.m. Wednesday — with some big news for Detroit Tigers fans.

The schedule shows the team will face the Minnesota Twins for the first game of the season on Monday, April 1, wrapping up that series in Minnesota on Thursday, April 4.

Then it’s on to Opening Day at Comerica Park  – and that’s where the really big news happens: The Tigers will play a longtime nemesis, the New York Yankees, on Opening Day, which falls on April 5, 2013.

That’s right, the 2013 Opening Day will have Detroit’s home team facing the Yankees, something that’s sure to delight fans. Best yet? Not only is Opening Day,which is treated like a national holiday in Detroit, happening against the Yankees  – it’s also happening on a Friday.
