Matthew Stafford On His Injured Leg, Waiting For 'Doctors To Figure It Out'

DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) The biggest question coming out of the Lions loss to the Titans Sunday -- besides whose fault was at the root of the final play -- is "how is Matthew Stafford feeling today?"

Metro Detroit finally got its answer Monday afternoon when Stafford called into the Valenti & Foster show, sounding strong and confident.

When asked about his injury, which is being reported as a hamstring strain, Stafford said, "Something had been bothering me throughout the week and the game." Stafford was asked if it's his hamstring that is hurt and he said, "I don't know, not really sure, we'll have to wait for the doctors to figure it out."

Valenti went on to ask if it was his upper or lower leg that hurt to which the response was simply, "my leg hurts."

Foster asked Stafford if there was a game today, could he play? Stafford replied, saying, "I don't know, but there isn't a game today." On one final question about the injury Valenti asked if the injury was day-to-day or week-to-week and Stafford said only, "I don't know, coach does all that stuff."

During the weekly news conference Lions Head Coach Jim Schwartz, who never discusses player's injuries, was asked about Stafford's leg and he said, "We'll see how he progresses throughout the week." Schwartz was also asked about the MRI that was performed on Stafford, and his answer was "no comment."

Stafford was replaced yesterday after his pass to Brandon Pettigrew was ripped away from him by Alterraun Verner and ran back for a TD. Stafford was giving chase and on television it looked as if he pulled up lame right before Verner scored the TD.

Fans are wonderingi f Stafford will give it a go this week with the Minnesota Vikings coming into Ford Field on Sunday. Stafford at times last year did play with a broken finger and also an injured ankle

"He's a tough kid, he's played with injuries before," Valenti said earlier in the show.

On the infamous miscommunication during the Titans game, Stafford said, "I wasn't out there, obviously at some point along the line there was a miscommunication. Honestly, we're past it now, we've moved on and we're looking forward to next week ... Every fourth down I want to go for it. It doesn't matter if it's a bad situation or not."

If Stafford can't play this week Shaun Hill will take his place as starter. Hill was 10-13 with 2 TDs in the loss to the Titans.
