Doug Fister Strikes Out 9 Consecutive Batters; New AL Record

DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Doug Fister broke the AL record Thursday afternoon for consecutive strikeouts, fanning nine Kansas City Royals.

Perez started out the strikeout streak on a called third strike to end the 4th for the Royals. Mike Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur both stuck out swinging and Brayan Pena was called out on strikes to end the 5th.

Due up in the 6th for the Royals were Johnny Giavotella, David Lough and Alcides Escobar. Giavotella and Lough were called out on strikes and Escobar struck out swinging.

In the 7th, Alex Gordon, Billy Butler and Salvador Perez were due up. Gordon and Butler were both called out on strikes.
