Oh Yes, There Will Be Zombies At The Metropark

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Halloween is less than 30 days away, which means it's the time of year when the undead are popping up all over.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

A zombie invasion will descend upon the Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 28, with participants eligible to join the Fright Night Zombie Chase 5k and Monster Mash Mile.

Guests have the option to run as a brain-eating zombie or be chased by the zombie hoard as a live human, so it's a pick your poison scenario, if you will. Those who are interested in taking part in the event, but not in the race, can also join as zombies along the route.

Runners will be put to the test in one of the most challenging courses in southeast Michigan as they traverse hills, rivers, piles of straw and the farm's corn maze in an effort to escape their decomposing pursuers.

Zombie make-up artists will get runners in character for a donation, starting around 3 p.m. The 5K will begin promptly at 4 p.m, followed by the Monster Mash Mile (for ages 8-12) at 5 p.m. All runners will receive an event T-shirt and are eligible to win prizes.

The cost to run as a zombie in the chase is $40. For those who want to be chased,  it costs$45. For those who want to be an additional Zombie in the chase, it costs $35. Students can participate in the chase for $25. For the Monster Mash Mile, it costs $15. For the guests who just want to watch the Zombie Chase 5k, it costs $10. The registration deadline is Saturday, October 27.

A barbecue follows the races and will include scary good hot dogs, drinks and snacks. There will also be live music by the J-Train Band that will play tunes from the '50s through the '90s beginning at around 6 p.m. The 5-acre corn maze will also be open. All food, activities and entertainment is included in the event admission cost.
