NEW YORK (AP) — Comments on the Detroit Lions by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

___

DETROIT LIONS (22)

Chris Berman (ESPN, 24) — Need Justin Verlander on defense.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 19) — In trouble riding a three-game losing streak, and schedule doesn’t get easier.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 22)

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 23) — Plenty of work ahead of them the next two weeks as they are Philadelphia and Chicago … Ouch!

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 24) — Jim Schwartz hopes he found a defense during the bye week. He’ll find out soon enough when Detroit visits the Iggles.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 24) — The struggling Lions play four of the next five on the road, starting Sunday with the Eagles.

Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 19) — Granted, the Lions have talent, but look where it has them: They’re 10 seconds away from a winless season.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 25) — Let’s see what they learned about themselves after a bye week.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 21) — A major disappointment this early in the season, but they have the coach and the talent to rebound. All is not lost.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 20) — Another team with a ton of talent that needs to start showing up on Sundays.

Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 24) — The Lions had better be ready to roar coming out of the bye. Detroit’s next two games are at Philadelphia and Chicago before Seattle rolls into the Motor City.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 20) — Tom Lewand is right: they are better than 1-3. They will show us how much better in their next two games against Philadelphia and Chicago.
