Detroit Man Gets Up To 17 Years For Shooting Toddler

DETROIT (AP) - A man has been sentenced to up to 17 years in prison for shooting a 3-year-old girl in Detroit.

Vernon R. Coles pleaded guilty last month to assault with intent to murder and having a firearm during a felony.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Judge Thomas Jackson on Thursday ordered Coles to serve 11 to 15 years on two assault counts and two consecutive years for the firearms charge.

Authorities say Amyria Parham was shot in August after a neighborhood dispute escalated. She was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and leg but later was released.
