The Detroit Lions have put themselves in a very sticky situation by winning just one of their first four games. CBS Sports and former NFL star Boomer Esiason told me that in order for the Lions to get out of their malaise they need to get some road wins, which with their schedule, won’t be easy,”4 of their next 5 are on the road beginning this week in Philadelphia.” He added that beating the Eagles will be tough because,” with McCoy, Jackson, and Vick they have some of the most dynamic players in the league and their defense is one of the best as well.”

Esiason did not buy into this week’s story from unnamed general managers that the Lions were not as good as people think and Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew were overrated, “They inherited the worst situation in history. The team was a disaster and now has a bright future and would be 3-1 if not for special teams.”

Being on WFAN in New York, Esiason talks every morning about the New York Yankees. I asked him what Tiger fans can look forward to if they do have to play the Yankees in the ALCS, he said,” Swisher,Granderson,Cano,Texiera, and AROD are missing in action right now and that bodes well for Detroit.”

You can hear the entire interview including his thoughts on Matthew Stafford right here.
