FundingPost Sets Detroit VC Event: FundingPost, an initiative of Second Venture Corp. of Stratford, Conn., will sponsor a Detroit venture capital and angel event on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Walsh College in Troy, 3838 Livernois Road. Speakers include angel investor Kenneth Kousky, Resonant managing director Michael Godwin, and Rockfish CMO Dave Knox. FundingPost has hosted more than 200 sold-out venture events in 22 cities in the past decade. FundingPost has facilitated connections of angel and venture capital investors with entrepreneurs. FundingPost events encompass over 11,000 CEOs and 750 venture capital funds in 22 cities nationwide; a printed deal flow magazine; and a deal-exchange website with more than 7,800 VC and angel investor members and more than 150,000 companies.

Community Seminar To Examine Pros, Cons Of Affordable Care Act: One hot topic of this year's presidential campaign is the Affordable Care Act. Nicknamed Obamacare, the law is designed to increase access to health coverage, and provide new consumer protection for people with insurance. In an effort to educate the public about the pros and cons of the new act, Eastern Michigan University will host the seminar, "Everything You Need to Know About the Affordable Care Act: A Community Teach-In," Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital's Administration Area auditorium at 5301 McAuley Drive, Ypsilanti. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is free and attendees are asked to park in Parking Lot P. Refreshments will be available at 5 p.m. to encourage networking. The seminar will provide timely information and discuss perceptions surrounding the Affordable Care Act and how it will impact Michiganders. The event is sponsored by Eastern Michigan University's Program in Health Administration, AARP of Michigan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital-Ann Arbor. Macomb Community College Marks Anniversary of M-TEC: Macomb Community College is hosting a 10th anniversary event at its Michigan Technical Education Center on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m., which will also highlight the college's comprehensive programs designed to support a skilled workforce ready for the demands of the "New Economy." A brief program at 11:30 a.m. will feature guest speaker, Doug Rothwell, chairman of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. Executive Committee, and president and CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan, who will address the role of workforce development in economic vitality. College employer partners and students will also share their experiences. The program will be followed by lunch and a tour of the facility, featuring demonstrations by faculty and students.
