DETROIT — (WWJ) General Motors confirming one of the auto industry’s worst kept secrets. It’s working on a new 7th generation Corvette, and that vehicle will debut at January’s North American International Auto Show. The unveiling has been scheduled for January 13, 2013, during press preview days of the auto show.

This is something that had been speculated about by enthusiasts, who have been trying to get a climpse at the new vehicle, which will remain closely guarded until the public debut.

One thing that GM is letting people see is a new emblem for the new Corvette.

“The all-new, seventh-generation Corvette deserved an all-new emblem,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. “The new Crossed Flags design reflects the character of the next Corvette. The flags are much more modern, more technical, and more detailed than before – underscoring the comprehensive redesign of the entire car.”

GM says the new Corvette will only have two parts in common with the current sixth generation model.

The Bowling Green, Kentucky plant that builds the Corvette will shut down for six months next year to prepare for production of the new model. GM isn’t confirming reports that the plant will add a second shift when it reopens next fall.

The 2014 Corvette is expected to go on sale toward the end of next year.

The release of the emblem is just the start of a tease process that will see other parts of the new vehicle revealed slowly between now and the auto show.

GM’s set up a web site for information and video content–www.one13thirteen.com. Inforation will also be place on social media sites like Facebook (facebook.com/corvette) and Twitter (#Corvette and #one13thirteen.)
