Police: Elderly Man Tried To Hire Hit Man To Kill Wife

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A 68-year-old Roseville man has been charged in an alleged murder-for-hire plot to get rid of his wife.

Charles Tringali was arraigned Thursday in Fraser district court a charge of solicitation of murder. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Police said they received a tip that Tringali was looking to hire a hit man to kill his wife of 27 years. They said the suspect met with an undercover Roseville detective, during which time they discussed a location for the killing, along with the method.

Police said a down payment was made to the detective -- but police aren't saying how much. At that point, Tringali was arrested.

Roseville Deputy Police Chief Donald Glandon said it's not yet clear exactly why Tringali wanted his wife dead.

"It's not one that you hear every day, you know, these cases. It's unfortunate, but for whatever his motivation was he chose this was the way  he was going to settle whatever problems he had or perceived that he had made a bad decision," Glandon told WWJ Newsradio 950.

Tringali is being held at the Macomb County Jail on a $1 million bond.   A preliminary examination is scheduled next Wednesday.
