Police Report More Random Shootings In Wixom

WIXOM (WWJ) - For the second time in three days, Wixom police are investigating reports of a gunman randomly shooting at people and cars along a stretch of Wixom Road.

It's eerily familiar to what happened Tuesday night -- when one resident told police he heard a gunshot and then the sound of a bullet whizzing by his head as he took out his trash.

Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950, Wixom City Manager Mike Dornan said, this time, the targets were people in their vehicles.

"Between 2 and 2:15 this (Thursday) afternoon ... again, random shots fired at vehicles who were going northbound at Wixom Road. Approximately four vehicles were shot at," said Dornan, adding that it all happened in a span of about 15 minutes.

Dornan said all four of those intended victims dialed 911.

Wixom Public Safety Director Clarence Goodlein said a fifth victim drove directly to police headquarters.

So far, there have been no injuries reported.

Earlier in the week, police said the gunman might have been driving a dark sports car, possibly a Ford Mustang.

As of Thursday evening, there was no word yet if these latest shots may have been coming from that same suspect vehicle -- but police said it is clear that someone in the Wixom area is targeting residents, apparently at random.

"Somebody knows who's responsible," said Goodlein. "I would encourage the people in your listening audience to call us with information they would have, because it is unimaginable that anyone, from a moving vehicle, would shoot at another moving vehicle."

Anyone who knows anything about this crime is asked to contact the Wixom Police Department at 248-624-6114 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
