Red Wings Launch Breast Cancer Awareness Week

Detroit, MI… The Detroit Red Wings in partnership with the American Cancer Society and Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute announced today the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Week presented by Team Rehab from Monday, Oct. 22, through Friday, Oct. 26. The team will hold a pair of events this week in recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Red Wings will host 30 breast cancer patients and one guest apiece this Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 1 – 5 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena for the Pink the Rink event where guests will have the chance to participate in some unique Red Wings experiences.

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.    Guests will mingle with former Red Wings players Chris Osgood and Kris Draper along with Assistant General Manager Jim Nill and radio play-by-play announcer Ken Kal.

2:00 – 4:00 p.m.    The patients will participate in a patient-exclusive session* in partnership with the American Cancer Society, while their guests enjoy a small skating party on the ice, interactive hockey games and a guided arena tour.

4:00 – 4:15 p.m.    Team nutritionist Lisa McDowell will make a brief presentation to all guests with tips on what to eat while going through chemotherapy treatment.

4:15 – 5:00 p.m.    All guests will enjoy a Red Wings locker room tour and photo opportunity.
