Detroit Man Charged With Murdering Uncle

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 28-year-old man has been charged with first degree murder in the death of his uncle, according to Detroit police.

Mark Williams on Tuesday was also arraigned on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearms. His bond was denied and is next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 30.

Police said Mark Williams was visiting relatives Saturday evening at a home on the 6600 block of Sparta and had an argument with his uncle, 46-year-old Robert Williams.

According to investigators, the younger Williams left after the argument and allegedly fired shots into the home, fatally striking his uncle.

Members of the Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team set up surveillance later that night after learning Williams was staying at a residence on the 14300 block of Terry Street. They arrested him without incident, police said.

"This was a senseless case of violence," Interim Police Chief Chester Logan said in a statement. "This family has lost two loved ones within a 4-hour period. We are urging family members and friends who are having disagreements, to find peaceful ways to handle their disputes."
