Popular Ski Hill Closing In Upper Peninsula

IRON MOUNTAIN (WWJ/AP) - A popular ski hill in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is expected to be closed for the season.

The owners of Norway Mountain announced that the facility isn't expected to open this ski season, WLUC-TV reported. There's no immediate word on long-term plans.

The owners said in a statement on the Norway Mountain website it's time for a new direction after 20 years.

"My wife and I truly enjoyed watching this ski hill become part of winter fun for residents of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan," the statement read.

"But all things change, and it was not without a lot of thought that we decided not to open this year. Our lives are taking a different direction and while we will miss all of the excitement and joy Norway Mountain has brought us over these great twenty years, it is time for us to move on."

The ski hill is located about 10 miles east of Iron Mountain.
