LANSING (AP) – A 20-year-old Lansing man has pleaded guilty for spray-painting graffiti on pillars at the state Capitol and a nearby war memorial.

Jeffery Handley faces sentencing Dec. 3 in Ingham County Circuit Court for one count of destruction of a memorial or tomb, a charge that can bring up to three months behind bars. He pleaded guilty last Wednesday in exchange for the dropping of two counts of malicious destruction of property.

Capitol security officers discovered the graffiti Sept. 6. The graffiti included stick figures on the columns and the phrase “Give art a chance” on the memorial.
