Matt Dery: What Is Wrong With Rodney Stuckey?

By: Matt Dery

Q: What is wrong with Rodney Stuckey?

A: Aren't fans tired of this chatter? This is Rodney's SIXTH season with the Pistons and he is off to a horrific start shooting 1 for 23.
He says he needs to touch the ball more. FINE. GO GET IT.

Q: Why are the Pistons struggling out of the gate?

A: Teams are spacing the floor against Detroit and really making the big guys move their feet on defense. The Pistons' bigs are not real quick and give the opposition credit, they have exploited this. The backcourt has to make more plays too. Brandon Knight's decision-making hasn't been good so far (He's only 20) and we know about Stuckey's struggles.

Q: What have you liked so far?

A: I love Kyle Singler's grit. This kid is calling for the ball and is not afraid to take the big shot. Plus, he is playing multiple positions just 3 games in and hasn't been bothered at all by it. Will Bynum is playing the best basketball of his career so far.

Q: When will we see Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond together?

A: Look, this is the future 4 and 5 combo in Detroit. We know that. But, Greg hasn't played the 4 ever. He has always been a center. They are easing him in, especially in practice, and having him learn the position. This is going to take some time. It is not just about Drummond's development, but also about a 22 year old Monroe having to learn the power forward spot. In addition, the 4 man in the NBA is now more of a 3. If you move Monroe to the 4 RIGHT NOW, he is going to have a difficult time guarding certain guys.

I am on the air tonight on 97-1 The Ticket at 8 with our Metro PCS Pistons Tonight Pregame show.  Then Detroit battles Denver at 9.
