1. The most important Sabermetrics statistic, and the one most easily measured, is OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage). Cabrera had the best OPS in the American League.

2. Cabrera moved from first base to third base, and played relatively well there defensively when it wasn’t expected. It opened the door for Prince Fielder in the Tigers’ lineup at first base. As such he was selfless and displayed leadership.

3. Cabrera did his best work the last two months of the season when a spot in the playoffs was on the line. He also was extraordinarily successful in the late innings.
