Sheriff: Fatal Accident May Have Involved Drunk Driving

LENOX TWP. (WWJ) - The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal two car accident in Lenox Township that may have involved drunk driving.

Police say the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday on Gratiot Avenue, just south of 30 Mile Road.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said 22-year-old Angelina Maskey of Richmond Township was killed in the crash, while a 49-year-old Port Huron woman was injured.

Wickersham said Maskey was traveling southbound on Gratiot Ave. when she went to pass another vehicle on the west gravel shoulder at a high rate of speed. When Maskey re-entered the roadway, Wickersham said she lost control of her vehicle, which went spinning into the northbound lane of travel where it collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Maskey was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Wickersham said their preliminary investigation reveals that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
