DETROIT (AP) — Ray McCallum capped a 20-point night with a game-sealing 18-footer with 13 seconds left, helping Detroit hold on to beat Drake 85-79 on Saturday night.
McCallum’s shot followed a Ben Simons 3-pointer that had pulled Drake within 81-79 with 46 seconds to play.
Doug Anderson led the Titans (2-1) with a career-high 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting and made all three of his 3-point attempts. He also pulled down 10 rebounds. Nick Minnerath added 16 points.
Jordan Clarke had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-1), and Chris Hines scored 14. Drake’s bench outscored Detroit’s 25-6.
Up 76-62 with 4:04 left after Juwan Howard Jr.’s two free throws, the Titans looked to have the game in hand. But a 17-5 Drake run, capped by Simons’ 3-pointer, got the Bulldogs back within two before McCallum’s late jumper.
Drake now holds an 11-10 lead in the series between the schools.
