Minor Injuries In Fire Truck/Pickup Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - One person was injured Monday morning when his pickup truck collided with a fire engine at Warren and Alter on Detroit's east side.
Mohammad Zindani, who was watching from the window of his gas station at the corner, said the fire truck had the lights and siren on as it was travelling down Alter when the westbound pickup truck clipped the back of the engine and spun both vehicles around.
He said firefighters sprang into action following the crash.
"They jumped out and ran right to the guy," Zindani told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey. "He opened the door, took him out, put him on the curb right there, on the sidewalk ... they had a blanket on him and they were just telling him to wait until the ambulance comes.
"He was screaming about his leg ... It looked pretty nasty," he said.
Officials said the pickup driver suffered a broken ankle. His truck was totaled.
There were no injuries reported in those who were in the fire truck, which sustained only minor damage.
