Game-Based Captcha Replacement Firm Adds New Customization Options
DETROIT -- Are You a Human, a Detroit-based company that designs simple games to verify human interaction on Web sites, Tuesday announced new customization options for its game-based authentication tool, PlayThru.
Subscribers to Are You a Human's paid plans can now select from different sets of themed games, adjust the strictness of the games' scoring algorithms, and display translations for Spanish, French and German users.

Are You a Human's new customizable plan is available for $19 a month. Developers may also choose the Step up Plan for $80 a month, which enables features such as white labeling and reporting. The Basic Plan, which includes an unlimited number of games and access to the company's full library of libraries and plugins, remains completely free.
First released in May of this year, more than 30 million PlayThru games have been played on more than 3,500 sites around the world, including Quicken Loans and Fathead. PlayThru's game mechanics and simple, intuitive interface solves the major problems associated with traditional text-based CAPTCHAs, such as poor user experience, decreased security and reduced conversions. Instead of asking users to decipher difficult-to-read words or phrases, PlayThru invites users to solve a game by identifying and interacting with dynamic objects, such as dragging and dropping toppings onto a pizza.
In Are You a Human-sponsored surveys, 98 percent of users preferred PlayThru over traditional text-based CAPTCHAs. Sites currently using PlayThru have seen submission rates increase by up to 50 percent over text-based CAPTCHAs.
