Italian Metrology Firm Opens Wixom Office

WIXOM -- The Italian coordinate measuring machine manufacturer Coord3 Metrology has opened a new North American sales and service center in Wixom. The center has an initial staff of four employees and is roughly 6,000 square feet in size.

A coordinate measuring machine, or CMM, is a three-dimensional device for measuring the physical geometrical characteristics of an object. It takes readings in six axes and displays these readings in mathematical form. Manufacturers use CMMs to inspect and verify the dimensional accuracies of their parts, both during at the end of the manufacturing process.

"Coord3 is aggressively expanding its global reach and introducing new CMM products," said Elliott Mills, the company's North American general manager. "Coord3 has an installed base of over 3000 CMMs, of which many are in the United States and Mexico. From our new CMM sales and service facility that includes an ISO17025 certified CMM rebuild and remanufacturing center, Coord3 anticipates significant growth in CMM sales heading into 2013."

Mills said that the company "has a wide range of CMM solutions that include, bridge-style, horizontal arm and gantry designs. We offer everything from an entry-level bridge-type CMMs, to sophisticated large gantry CMM designs that are ideal for aerospace and wind energy applications. Our CMM mechanical designs are a benchmark for best-in-class dynamics and metrology performance, as evidenced by the fact that other leading CMM manufacturers incorporate COORD3 structures into their own range of CMM products."

Coord3 Industries, based in Torino, Italy, is an ISO 9001:2000 certified CMM manufacturer with subsidiary operations in the USA, China and India.
