Man Killed, Woman Hurt In West Side Detroit Shooting

DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city’s west side.

Police say the incident occurred Wednesday morning at a home on Washburn Street, near Wyoming and West McNichols.

According to police, a man was shot to death and a woman was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The woman’s condition is unknown.

One neighbor talking to WWJ Newsradio 950 said he knows the couple, but didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary. “This is a quiet neighborhood, a lot of elderly people on this block; kids come outside and they play,” he said. “And, you know, I think individuals … who have problems need to figure out better ways in order to manage the problems that they have.”

Reporting from the scene, WWJ’s Florence Walton, said a grandmother was allowed to remove her 11-year-old grandson from the home. He appeared to be unharmed.

No names have been released.
