LIVONIA (WWJ/AP) – A union official says Livonia-based Awrey Bakeries is planning to issue a 60-day federally required layoff notice to its 150 employees after filing with the state.

Joe Silva, president of United Distributive Workers Council 30, told The Detroit News that Awrey is looking for a buyer before shutting its doors.

Silva said Wednesday that Awrey CEO Bob Wallace told a five-member contract negotiating committee the company plans to file a WARN notice with Michigan.

Wallace reportedly told committee members that a handful of potential buyers have been touring the company’s plant for several months.

Silva said a new owner could emerge soon.
