Dossin Great Lakes Museum To Close For Renovation

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - This weekend marks the final opportunity for visitors to check out the Dossin Great Lakes Museum for a while.

The maritime museum on Detroit's Belle Isle is set to undergo a five-month renovation. It'll close down to the public after Sunday.

A new core exhibit will be created as a part of the renovation. Called "Built by the River," the display will highlight the ways in which Detroiters have relied upon the river and lakes to build industries, engage neighbors and pursue recreational interests.

Admission to the museum is free, and regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Dossin Great Lakes Museum is operated by the Detroit Historical Society, whose Detroit Historical Museum recently reopened after its own renovation.
