Final Surgery A Success For Little Girl Mauled By Pet Raccoon

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – A 10-year-old West Michigan girl whose face was mauled by a pet raccoon when she was a baby has had her final major surgery.

A surgeon at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak says the procedure went very well.

The doctor, who earlier repaired the girl’s upper lip,  divided a flap of skin from Charlotte Ponce’s forehead to create the outside of her nose during this surgery.

A minor surgery to reconstruct Charlotte’s right ear is planned for next summer.

But for now, the girl is being discharged from the hospital and will be back in school in early 2013.
