Attorney Calls Client Conviction "Trial By Media"

DETROIT (WWJ) - Before his client was sentenced the attorney for D'andre Lane pleaded with Wayne County Judge Vonda Evans to grant his client a new trial.

No evidence has been put forth said attorney Terry Johnson that Lane has committed any crime or that his daughter Bianca Jones is dead.

"Years ago people used to march the streets with pitchforks and torches to get what was called vigilante justice," said Johnson. "They've traded the pitchforks and torches for cameras and microphones and that's what has happened here, your honor. Mr. Lane was given a trial by media."

No new trial was granted but an appeal is expected. As Lane was led from the courtroom, he called the judge who characterized him as a control freak and a torturer - a liar.
