Angels Looking At Free Agent Pitcher Anibal Sanchez

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Last week, CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler reported the Angels are now unlikely to retain free-agent starting pitcher Zack Greinke. But that doesn't mean they are out of the market for starting pitchers. CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman is now reporting that the Angels are looking at free-agents Anibal Sanchez and Kyle Lohse.

Though the Angels traded for Tommy Hanson late last week, there's still a void in the starting rotation behind Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and Hanson. As things stand now, Garrett Richards and Jerome Williams would round out the rotation. But the Angels still appear to be looking for an upgrade over at least Williams.

Sanchez, 28, went 9-13 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 167 strikeouts in 195 2/3 innings last season for the Marlins and Tigers, though he caught fire down the stretch. In his last eight regular-season starts, he had a 2.15 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. In three postseason starts, Sanchez had a 1.77 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings.
