Event Notices From December 10

Kalamazoo Career Fair Returns on March 20: Kalamazoo Valley Community College and the Southwest Michigan Advanced Manufacturing Career Consortium are hosting the second annual Kalamazoo Career Fair. This year's event will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on March 20 at Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Texas Township Campus.  The event is free and open to the public. The purpose of this collaboration is to give student and community job seekers the opportunity to meet face-to-face with area employers. Last year's revamped event drew more than 1,800 job seekers, up from 800 the previous year. Nearly 100 employers with current job openings are expected to attend again this year. Breakout sessions with information about careers in the manufacturing, job readiness and other topics are being planned. Diane Finch, Director of Student Career and Employment Services at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, said job seekers who attend the Career Fair should bring copies of their resumes, dress for success and be prepared to meet with potential employers. College student Kaitlyn Fabian landed a fulltime job at the Parker Hannifin Corporation as a result of the contacts she made at last year's Kalamazoo Career Fair. She is certain that her resume, business suit and willingness to start out as an intern landed her a position with her employer. She also recommends dressing appropriately and doing research about the companies that will be represented at the career fair. The Kalamazoo Gazette/Advance Internet/M-Live is the event sponsor again this year. A list of participating employers, video interviews with area employers, tips for job seekers and other details are also available on the Career Fair Web site at www.kalamazoocareerfair.com. For more information contact Diane Finch at (269) 488-4603.
