Forensic Fluids Laboratories Names Tim Derrington COO: Kalamazoo-based Forensic Fluids Laboratories, the nation's only drug testing lab to specialize in the testing of oral fluid exclusively, has appointed Tim Derrington, an experienced executive in the life sciences field, as COO. FFL also announced staff additions in its Therapeutic Sales and Toxicology divisions. Derrington assumed his new role on Dec. 10. A native of Worcestershire, United Kingdom, he joined FFL after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer at MPIResearch, a Mattawan-based preclinical contract research organization. Prior to that, Derrington was chairman and CEO of Axient Research in Little Rock, Ark., and president and CEO of Bioreliance Corp. of Rockville, Md. Other career highlights include leadership roles at Quintiles Transnational Corp. in Raleigh, N.C., Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. and Shell UK Ventures in London, U.K. Derrington holds an MBA from Henley Management College in Oxfordshire, U.K., and a graduate diploma in agricultural management from Seale Hayne College in Devon, U.K. He currently serves on the Borgess Medical Center Board of Trustees. In addition to Derrington, Forensic Fluids Laboratories recently added two key staff positions as part of its continued growth. Susan McDonnell joined FFL on Nov. 26 as director of therapeutic sales. In this role, she will lead sales and customer service for FFL's medication monitoring market. McDonnell previously served as vice president of sales for PinpointMD of Chicago, which provides communication platforms for diagnostic testing systems. Her career also included roles at Home Access Health Corp. and 11 years at Quest Diagnostics, both in the greater Chicago area. She is a native of Algonquin, Ill., and studied biology at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. Donna Coy is the latest addition to FFL's toxicology team and joined the company on Dec. 11. In this role, Coy expands FFL's capabilities to analyze samples for illegal and prescription drugs using liquid chromatography- tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) technology. Coy is a Ph.D. in toxicology and has been a graduate research assistant at the Graduate Center for Toxicology at the University of Kentucky (Lexington). She earned a bachelor's degree in forensic science at Eastern Kentucky University (Richmond) and served as an intern with the Kentucky State Police. She is a native of Shepherdsville, Ky. Since its founding in 2005, Forensic Fluids Laboratories has grown to $11 million in annual sales in 2012, with a workforce of 50, a presence in 27 states and more than 800 customers in health care, business, law enforcement and corrections.
