MONROE (WWJ) – A 6-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after she was clipped by a car in Monroe Thursday morning.

It happened at around 8 a.m. as the girl was getting on a school bus on W. Third St. between Adams and Union.

Monroe police said the child was hit in the shoulder area with the mirror of a car after the vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old woman, traveled past the bus that had its lights flashing.

According to reports, the child, a first-grader at Arborwood North Elementary School, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Monroe Evening News reported she was conscious and talking at the scene and is expected to be OK.

The driver of the car was ticketed for disregarding the school bus warning lights.

A spokesman for Monroe Public Schools said counselors would be made available to students who witnessed the accident.
