DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced that Mike Henneman will serve as the pitching coach at Single A West Michigan during the 2013 season.
Henneman saw action in 10 seasons at the major league level with the Tigers (1987-95), Houston Astros (1995) and Texas Rangers (1996). He compiled a 57-42 record, 3.21 ERA (732.2IP/261ER), 193 saves and 533 strikeouts in 561 appearances during his major league career.
Selected by the Tigers in the fourth round of the June 1984 draft, he finished 57-34 with a 3.05 ERA (669.2IP/227ER), 154 saves and 480 strikeouts in 491 outings during his career with Detroit.
Henneman is second in Tigers history with 154 saves during his career with the club, while he is fifth with 491 appearances.
His stint as the pitching coach with West Michigan will mark Henneman’s first professional coaching assignment.
