Woman Attacked After Getting Off Bus In Ferndale

FERNDALE (WWJ) - A 24-year-old woman says she was attacked by a man who followed her after getting off a bus in Ferndale Thursday night.

The woman told police she first encountered the man as she was waiting for a bus on 8 Mile Road in Detroit around 9:30 p.m. She said the man drove up in a blue or gray colored mini-van and asked if she needed a ride.

The woman said she told the man no, to which he allegedly replied that he was going to follow her on the bus.

Police say the woman got on the bus and rode to a stop at 8 Mile and Livernois where she got off. The woman told police she looked for the suspect when she stepped off the bus, but didn't see him, so she started walking north on Livernois.

The woman said she walked several blocks before the same man appeared out of the darkness and attacked her. She told police the man grabbed her from behind and began to drag her.

Police say the woman was able to break free from her attacker by hitting the man with her keys.

The woman was not injured during the struggle, but her glasses were broken.

The suspect is described as a 50-year-old white male with slicked back grey hair and a grey mustache. Police say the attacker may have injuries from being scratched by the keys.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Ferndale police at 248-541-3650 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
