Mitsuba Corp. In Mount Pleasant Gets DEQ Award

MOUNT PLEASANT (WWJ/AP) - A company in Mount Pleasant is the 180th to be designated a "clean corporate citizen" by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

The DEQ announced Wednesday that American Mitsuba Corporation had won the award.

Companies chosen for the program must have environmental management systems, active pollution prevention initiatives, and a consistent record of compliance with state and federal environmental requirements.

Assistant Plant Manager Mike Goin said American Mitsuba employs approximately 234 people. Primary manufacturing processes in Mt. Pleasant include stamping, plastic injection molding, armature assembly, and assembly of starter motors and cooling fan motors.

Goin said the company is a conditionally exempt, small-quantity generator of hazardous waste and a small quantity generator of universal waste.

"AMC is dedicated to the prevention of pollution, conservation of natural resources, compliance to local, state, federal regulations, and the continual improvement of our manufacturing process," Goin said.
