3 Killed In Head-On Crash On Christmas Day
SOUTH LYON (WWJ) - Police say three people were killed and a fourth was injured in a head-on crash in Oakland County on Christmas Day.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on 8 Mile Road, just west of Currie Road, in South Lyon, when a westbound traveling vehicle crossed the center line and crashed head-on with an eastbound traveling vehicle.
Police say 68-year-old Mary Hammon, the innocent motorist, and her two passengers, 71-year-old Jackie Hammon and 66-year-old Judith Shedell, all of Salem Township, were killed in the crash.
The other driver, identified only as a 31-year-old Livonia woman, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor where she is listed in stable condition.
Police say alcohol is not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The accident forced the closing of busy 8 Mile Road, which marks the border between South Lyon and Washtenaw County's Salem Township, for several hours. The road has since reopened.
