It’s pretty amazing that an incident that took place in 1994 could cause such a stir in Detroit but that’s exactly what happened. By now, I’m sure you have heard that former Lions tackle Lomas Brown has admitted to intentionally missing a block to get QB Scott Mitchell hurt in a game against the Green Bay Packers. Since Brown spoke out, Mitchell has as well and you can read his comments right here.

On Wednesday some current Lions players took the time to give their thoughts about Brown, Mitchell and if missing blocks is routine in today’s game. Center Dominic Raiola, a man that has something to say about everything offered up his view when asked saying “that’s kind of bush league if you ask me. If he did really say it, that’s bush league, that’s all I have to say about that. When I saw it, I was like I don’t think I would ever do that. As an offensive lineman I don’t think you can ever say that you would do that. That ain’t cool!”

Guard Rob Simms wasn’t aware of the story until it was brought up in a line of questioning. “I would never do that” Simms said. “I just don’t like people getting past me.” Has Simms has heard of this kind of behavior going on in the game today? He said “not since I have been playing, I haven’t heard anything like that. Simms did admit that missing blocks intentionally probably went on in the past before he was in the league but now because of all the money involved, things have cleaned up.

I had a chance to ask QB Matt Stafford how the story affected him, I would assume it would be a quarterback’s worst nightmare? “I’m just glad he’s not blocking for me, I would have to be really nice to him if he was.”
