Traverse City Man Accused Of Scalding Girlfriend's Baby

TRAVERSE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a 24-year-old Traverse City man sprayed his girlfriend's 4-month-old baby in the face with scalding water.

Robert A. Floyd was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Michael Stepka on a charge of second-degree child abuse, which has a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle says the child is being treated at a burn center in Ann Arbor.

Grand Traverse County Assistant Prosecutor Bob Cooney says investigators continue to try to learn exactly how the infant boy was hurt.

Floyd is free after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond, and he returns to court Jan. 9 for a preliminary examination.

There's no phone listing for Floyd, and it's unknown if he has a lawyer.
