DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police say they want a warrant issued against a 26-year-old mother in connection to the death of her 8-year-old daughter.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Eren Stephens tells WWJ police found the little girl dead in a townhouse Sunday morning after a 911 call.
The Wayne County Medical Examiners office confirms that the girl died of a single stab wound to the chest.
The young girl shared the home with her mother. Police have issued a report to the prosecutor’s office and is requesting that charges be brought against the mother who is now in custody.
A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said they are reviewing the case.
Balloons and stuffed animals sat on the home’s front steps today in an impromptu memorial to the girl.
