Man Who Allegedly Tried To Lure Girl With Candy In Custody

REDFORD (WWJ) - Parents in Redford are breathing a sigh of relief Friday morning after the man who tried to lure a girl with candy two days ago is now in police custody.

Police wouldn't say much, other than to confirm that the man is behind bars and they are continuing to investigate. The man's identity was not immediately released.

According to investigators, a 6-year-old girl was playing near a sidewalk on 7 Mile Road, just east of Inkster, around 2 p.m. on Wednesday when the man approached in his vehicle and asked if she wanted some candy. The girl ran and the man drove away. The incident was witnessed by the girl's mother, who immediately called the police.

Parents in the area went on high alert after police sent out a sketch of a white, middle-aged male with short black hair, glasses with a silver frame and possibly silver lenses.

Police in Redford say they are still looking for a second man who exposed himself before Christmas on Schoolcraft near Inkster. The man was driving a rusty, black minivan with silver running boards.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Redford police at 313- 387-2551.
