Police: Man Offered To Help Couple Before Sexual Assault

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are searching for a man suspected of offering to help a couple in a stalled vehicle on Detroit's east side before sexually assaulting one of them.

Police say a 55-year-old woman and her 63-year-old husband were in their vehicle Tuesday near the intersection of Findlay and Dresden when a man approached them and offered assistance.

After a short conversation, the suspect produced a weapon and demanded money before forcing himself onto the woman and sexually assaulting her, police said. The suspect then fled the area.

The woman was treated at a local hospital and released. Her husband wasn't injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, age 25-30, about 5'8" with a stocky build, medium-dark complexion, light mustache and light beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black baseball hat with an orange bill, a black sweatshirt under a dark blue coat, dark blue jeans and dirty, white gym shoes.

Police have released a composite sketch of the suspect in hopes the public will come forward with any tips on his identity.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department's Sex Crimes unit at 313-596-1950 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You can also submit a tip online at www.1800speakup.org, or text "CSM" and your tip to CRIMES (274637).
