DETROIT (CBS Detroit) For the rest to live, one must go. It may seem harsh, but it’s the stance Hasbro is taking about its iconic Monopoly game pieces.

In an effort to keep the iconic game fresh, the company started a campaign urging fans to vote to save their favorite pieces — or “get them out of jail” — including the hat, wheelbarrow, Scottie dog, iron, shoe, old-fashioned car or battleship.

One will be eliminated based on voting.

And then fans can pick a new piece as a replacement, with options including a jaunty mustachioed robot, a sleek cat, a blingy diamond ring, a helicopter and guitar.

In current voting, the contest shows the dog is safe, as is the car, while the battleship, hat, thimble and shoe are in neutral territory.

In trouble are the wheelbarrow and iron. “Prosecution” on the site says the wheelbarrow is “too small to hold wads of Monopoly money.” The only defense listed for the iron is that it’s “cordless.”

As every Monopoly fan knows, certain pieces bring their player luck and others spell doom. So, which Monopoly pieces are your favorite, metro Detroit? Let us know in comments below.
