Elderly Couple Dies In Trailer Park Fire

NOVI (WWJ/AP) - Authorities in Oakland County say an elderly couple have died in a fire at their mobile home.

A spokesperson for the Novi Fire Department said a 79 year-old man and 73-year-old woman died in the blaze at the Novi Meadows Mobile Home Park at 13 Mile near Novi Road.

Fire crews responded to the scene at around 8:30 a.m.Thursday in the 26000 block of Indiana.

There are some reports that indicate the couple may have been asleep when the fire got started and were unable to escape. The victims, identified by WDIV-TV and Lewis and Jeannette Hampton, were pronounced dead at a  Providence Park Hospital .  No other injuries were reported.

County medical examiner's spokesman Robert Gerd said an autopsy was planned for Friday morning.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
