DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced Chris Cron will return in 2013 to serve as the manager at Double A Erie. Jamie Garcia and Gerald Perry have joined the Tigers organization as the pitching coach and hitting coach, respectively, at Erie.

The 2013 season will mark Cron’s third season with the Tigers organization as the manager at Erie. Prior to joining the Tigers organization in 2011, he managed for 16 seasons at the minor league level with the Chicago White Sox (1995-99, 2003-10) and Colorado Rockies (2000-02).

Prior to joining the Tigers organization, Garcia spent six seasons with the Houston Astros organization. He spent his first four seasons (2007-10) with the Astros as the organization’s assistant pitching coordinator, before serving as the minor league pitching coordinator in 2011 and the pitching coach with the Gulf Coast League Astros and the Latin Pitching Supervisor in 2012.

Garcia’s professional coaching career began with the Chicago White Sox organization in 1988. After spending nine seasons with the White Sox organization (1988-96), Garcia has coached with the Milwaukee Brewers (1997), Texas Rangers (1998-99), Kansas City Royals (2000-02) and Cincinnati Reds (2003-06) organizations.

Perry joins the Tigers organization after serving as the hitting coach with Triple A Pawtucket in the Boston Red Sox organization during the 2012 season. He has served as a hitting coach at the major league level with the Seattle Mariners (2000-02), Pittsburgh Pirates (2003-05), Oakland Athletics (2006, 2011) and Chicago Cubs (2007-June of 2009). Perry’s coaching career began in 1997 as he served as the hitting coach at Single A Michigan in the Red Sox organization. He spent both the 1998 and 2010 seasons as the hitting coach at Pawtucket, while he served as Boston’s minor league hitting coordinator in 1999.

Selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the June 1978 draft, Perry played 13 seasons at the major league level with the Braves (1983-89), Kansas City Royals (1990) and St. Louis Cardinals (1991-95). He was selected to the National League’s all-star squad during the 1988 season.

Chris McDonald will return to Erie for his eighth season as the club’s athletic trainer, his 13th season with the Tigers organization. Fred Murphy will serve as the strength and conditioning coordinator with the SeaWolves during the 2013 season.
