DETROIT (WWJ) – The North American International Auto Show wraps us Sunday evening, but you can still check it out Saturday and Sunday.
If you go, consider donating some spare change to THAW, The Heat and Warmth Fund, at one of the auto show entrances.
“We’re going to be taking donations and to be able to bring more recognition to THAW – to let people know that there’s people out there that have a need and to stay warm throughout the winter,” said THAW volunteer Deborah Hardison-Hill.
“To be able to help a family for a full winter, the average heating bill now is running about $200 a month, and you are talking about 3-4 months of cold weather,” said Hardison Hill. “So you are talking about $600-$800 just for a family.”
“There is a need, I’ve been in that situation before when my heating bill had gotten so high that I couldn’t afford to pay for it and I had to look for another source to pay for it.”
She said she feels like THAW does a lot of good for a lot of people and notes that every little bit helps.
The WWJ Winter Survival Radiothon for THAW will be held next weekend, find more information – HERE.
