DETROIT (WWJ) – While there was no outward sign of damage at the home on Gilcrest on the city’s northwest side,  five children were reportedly hurt when a ceiling collapsed Monday.

An unidentified man who answered the door at the home said he didn’t want to talk except to say that he doesn’t know why the ceiling came down and that the children were not seriously hurt, suffering “only scratches.”

Demandas Johnson is a neighbor who says they are a nice family. “Oh man, it hurts, cause I’ve got kids of my own and I want to see all the kids be all right. So it’s just a blessing that the kids made it alright,” he said.

The children range in age from 6 months to 8 years old; The two adults in the home were not injured.
