PLYMOUTH (WWJ) – Jonathan Weid is an accidental hero. He fell into his play by-play job as an announcer for the Miracle Baseball League of Plymouth when he was asked to sit in for one game; nearly two years ago. Now he says he’ll never give it up:
“These are kids that are never going to get the opportunity to play with their able-bodied friends – whether it be in an organized league or even in their own backyard,” Weid said.
Another volunteer says parents are amazed at his commentary when a child is up to bat.
“It was always Game 7 of the World Series – bottom of the ninth inning and trying to get that last hit,” said Weid. “I try to make these kids feel like every time they are up to bat – that that is what they are going to experience.”
Weid does have radio experience–but nothing prepared him for this.
“I think it’s magical every Saturday in the Spring and Fall it’s really something to see.”
Johnathan Weid is WWJ’s Diffrence Maker for January.
